Welcome!

WellNS is a group of researchers focused on improving mental wellness in Nova Scotia. Our goal is to learn more about the factors that affect mental health so we can help build healthier, more connected, and resilient communities. We believe in openness, collaboration, and ensuring mental health is accessible to everyone.

What is the Nova Scotia
Mental Wellness Survey?

The Nova Scotia Mental Wellness Survey will help us understand how people across the province are doing with their mental health and well-being.

We want to learn not only about the challenges you face but also what helps you stay well.

By gathering this information, we can see what supports mental wellness, understand how many people are dealing with mental health, substance use, or gambling challenges, and find out what helps individuals, families, and communities thrive.

This knowledge will guide efforts to build healthier, stronger communities across Nova Scotia.

How is this survey conducted?

Our 2025 Nova Scotia Mental Wellness Survey heard from more than 13,000 Nova Scotians across the lifespan.

This special edition of the survey is designed specifically for children and youth!

This online survey is completely confidential and anonymous.

Children (aged 4-12) – Parents respond on their behalf

Youth (13-17) – there are two options, one for them to respond themselves and another for parents to fill out for them.

This helps us gather valuable insights while keeping responses private and secure.

Adult 18+ (Currently Closed)

Your participation will help us better understand mental wellness across Nova Scotia.

With your input, we can recognize the strengths and needs of communities, focus on the positive factors that contribute to mental health, and address the challenges people face.

By working together, we can create environments where individuals and communities can thrive emotionally, mentally, and socially.

This survey is about building a culture of well-being that benefits everyone.

Together, we can help ensure that every person and community in Nova Scotia has the opportunity to live a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Our Vision

Improving the quality of mental health and substance use data to enhance community wellness.

Our Mission

The Nova Scotia Mental Wellness Survey explores what helps communities thrive while also gathering insights on mental health and substance use challenges and support needs. By understanding both strengths and struggles, the survey will help shape policies, programs, and services that support mental wellness for all.
